From the page: “In the end she told me another fortune by another cup of coffee while she was miffed and said “anything good will never come of it”. The sign was no good. We had repeated fortune-telling by the third and forth cups of coffee only to get worse luck, bad luck and worst luck. In short, the sign is always bad and I can not have a good sign by other attempts. I even had an unfounded suspicion that she might perversely tell the ill fortune. She denied of the doubt and gave me many explanations as she saw my signs. Even the poorest shot can hit the target if you shoot often enough. The opponent is mere coffee after all. I had a sign of the best luck before my belly was ripped apart. I said so, huh?”

Salon de Miss Chihaya

For those inexperienced and who do not know Miss Chihaya, mistress Chihaya’s secular name is “Towa” and she is a 18 years old lady at brothel Oomojiya. She is the mistress who takes pride in her ranking at the list of prostitutes on the official bulletin board by the great gate of Yoshiwara. She never come down to the second. Miss Kamiyo is 16 years old brand-new. Both are famous Koya poetess. They offer hospitality without making their eyebrows, faces, nor teeth up. Geisha in Fukagawa mimicked this later.

    Miss Chihaya loves an insect and is renowned entomologist whose knowledge extends to software bugs to bookworms. She is popular among insect loving dukes and barons and her fan club, Red Rod Club, has been organized by them. Today’s her absence is because of it. It is said that an uncommon insect was found in the shogun’s harem and she was called in. Miss Chihaya hesitated since the meeting at second floor of noodle house Chikurinan by Koyta poets is scheduled today. She worte;

Want the name of a hairy caterpillar? There are few ways out of Yoshiwara.

    Return poem is;

What is common among uncommon women within an enclosure is
    rare opportunity to go out.

Miss Chihaya was moved to tears and went to the shogun’s harem. (It is good not having make-up as you can shed tears without worrying to lose face)

The Bagpuss Homage Page

Once upon a time,
Not so long ago,
There was a little girl and her name was Emily.
And she had a shop.
There it is.
It was a rather unusual shop because it didn’t sell anything.
You see, everything in that shop was a thing that somebody had once lost,
And Emily had found,
And brought home to Bagpuss.
Emily’s cat Bagpuss.
The most important,
The most beautiful,
The most magical,
Saggy old cloth cat in the whole wide world.

Well now, one day Emily found a thing.
She brought it back to the shop,
And put it down in front of Bagpuss,
Who was in the shop window fast asleep as usual.
But then Emily said some magic words.

Stumbleupon Review

“Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss,
Old fat furry cat-puss,
Wake up and look at this thing that I bring.

Wake up, be bright,
Be golden and light,
Bagpuss, O hear what I sing.”
[Bagypuss yawns deeply.]

And Bagpuss was wide awake.
And when Bagpuss wakes up all his friends wake up too.
The mice on the mouse-organ woke up and stretched.
[Stretchy “eeee” noises from the mice.]

And last of all, Professor Yaffle, who was a very distinguished old woodpecker.
He climbed down off his bookend and went to see what it was Emily had brought.

Stumbleupon Review

Bagpuss gave a big yawn, and settled down to sleep.
And of course when Bagpuss goes to sleep, all his friends go to sleep too.
The mice were ornaments on the mouse-organ.
Gabriel and Madeleine were just dolls.
And Professor Yaffle was a carved wooden bookend in the shape of a woodpecker.
Even Bagpuss himself once he was asleep was just an old, saggy cloth cat.
Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.
But Emily loved him.

Stumbleupon Review

[At this point, Professor Yaffle and the rest examine the strange, battered broken object, and Bagpuss settles down to hear a story based on it; sometimes he thinks hard and the story appears in a think bubble over his head, or the mice load a song roll and the animation appears on the screen of “the marvelous, mechanical mouse organ”, showing a story about the object, narrated by one of the characters. A song is sung (often with Gabriel playing his banjo) and if the song doesn’t work the magic, the mice fix whatever the object is, singing the

“we will fix it,
we will stitch it,
we will make it
new, new, new”

song in their high-pitched voices, and the mended thing is dragged to the shop window to be sold]

(and why yes! that is tikkyfare with the baseball bat, she is an engineer, using the latest in Percussive Analysis Techniques (PAT) to solve an intractable problem. Permamently ‘solve’ it even… we were out of coffee that morning)
