LEAVING THE VIRTUAL GHETTO

From
the page: “Pop Culture is a Virtual Ghetto that infiltrates our minds.
In this Virtual Ghetto, meaning is meaningless un-less you un-cover a
radically different subjectivity in which to process your own becoming.
This was the PoMo dilemma (one never resolved) and Avant-Pop artists,
who are just now traversing the borders of The Beyond and entering the
dangerous lands of Genderlessness and Degenerative Narrative, are the
ones who are presently trying their best to create the necessary angels
on whose wings we can find our way OUT of this virtual ghetto.

The Avant-Pop artist is a nomadic voyager, a cultural terrorist, whose
identity is constantly in flux (so as to elude the corporate
absorption), and who secretly “becomes” something like Woman or the
open-endedness of feminine imagination, reclaiming the terrain
vis-a-vis the enactment of subliminal postures/gestures that sabotage
the system’s rigidity. The strategy is to deterritorialize the
Institutional effects so as to create a new level playing field where
the action of hypermarked-up beings can once again ignite the language
of our spiritual unconscious.

Pop Culture is a Virtual Ghetto. This is another way of saying that our
MINDS have become Virtual Ghettos since that is where we have let Pop
Culture breed. We need to Reclaim the Imagination in such a way as to
synchronize our intuitive desires with the non-linear narrative spaces
they want to circulate in. Our dilemma then becomes how to make the
Electric real while simultaneously making the desert of our souls
virtually inhabitable.”

Rather more optimistic than I’d want to be. Suspect it’s more just the same old same old. Would in particular look at the role of porn in the French Revolution*.

What may have been radical revolution then is just wanna-be warmed up re-runs now.

SPEAK MY LANGUAGE – Laurie Anderson

From the page: “SPEAK MY LANGUAGE – Laurie Anderson

(Laurie Anderson)

Daddy, Daddy, it was just like you said.

Now that the living outnumber the dead.

Where I come from it’s a long thin thread,

across as ocean down a river of red.

Now that the living outnumber the dead.

I’m one of many.

Daddy daddy it was just like you said.

Now that the living outnumber the dead.

Speak my language.”

———

Think these days there must come a point in many of our lives when our
online friends and aquantences outnumber our real life ones. It should
really have a name, kind of like a birthday or a bris. Maybe one day it
will….

For me it happened long long ago perhaps about ’95 or ’96, Of course I
do have the advantage of actually being a far better misanthrope than
all the other pretenders who lay claim to the title. Having at the
time, as in fact now, only one pre-internet friend, and that in a
different country, and in infrequent contact -not of course that I
wouldn’t quite gleefully and cold bloodedly murder every single member
of laff-soup.group.stumbleupon.com [stumbleupon.com]

in a variety of suitibly slap-stick ways (some or more involving an
inflated bladder on a stick), just to make her smile; I mean otherwise
what sort of a friend would I be? But a convincing counterindication of
misanthropy she ain’t.

So as I was saying, for me the transition was sudden, obvious, and
blunt, but even for many of the more socially buttered and flying I
suspect the point still comes. Without fanfare or certification.

Bigger pond means more like minded fish I guess.

Funny old world though innit?

Rotavators are cool.

Everyone should have at least one, at least once.

mbiat.stumbleupon.com

As
time progresses I become increasingly more certain that the authors of
every blog I have ever enjoyed will eventually turn up here on
stumbleupon.

Here for instance is Zoe* from the marginally inescapable myboyfriendisatwat.com [myboyfriendisatwat.com]
, a site that has helped me through some long dark brunches of the soul
in the past with it’s constant and quisotic references to asparagus
shoots (and leaves).

Her humour is made doubly impressive by her residence in Belgium,
smelling of fish I can understand from one of that locale, having such
great wit however is a wonderful and surprising addition to the Belgian
norm.

* As the more sharper viewers among you will have already noticed this
is indeed an anagram of Oze, and that could well be a plot device. Is
she indeed The Oze? how does that relate to her house number? does she
know origami? all will be revealed…
