Baise-moi (2000)

Would have to agree with all the reviews comparing this to Thelma and Louise, in fact if you were to walk in half way through on it the only way you could tell the movies apart is the hair colour of the leads…

Of course this being French it does have elements of the bedroom farce and that wacky Gallic humour that made Taxi such a success, also slightly more risque with some brief nudity and even (shock!) the occasional nipple, although it does lack the gritty down to earth American realism of T&L.

More somberly one of the two main actresses, Karen Lancaume, killed herself a week ago.. :/

dunno why this only got 4.8 on the IMDB, thought it was well made, original, and enjoyable… not shocking or ‘repellant’ as it seems to be labeled in many places.

Gund Teddy Bears, Gund Bears, Barefoot Dreams Robes, Barefoot Dreams Blanke

Cute little fluffy bears are one of the things the robots told me to burn.

Built a big pile of them, it was tricky – the cute little fluffy critters kept running away in their awkward, open-legged, cute little fluffy bear way, mewling pitifully as they went; AND I passed out several times from the noxious fumes they gave off when burning.

Got them all in the end though.

I did keep all the upper limbs however in case I ever move to the States and have a right to them.

Against Legalization by Hakim Bey

From the page: “Once processed as commodity, all rebellion is reduced to the image of rebellion, first as spectacle, and last as simulation. (See Debord, Baudrillard, etc.) The more powerful the dissent as art (or %u201Cdiscourse%u201D) the more powerless it becomes as commodity. In a world of Global Capital, where all media function collectively as the perfect mirror of Capital, we can recognize a global Image or universal imaginaire, universally mediated, lacking any outside or margin. All Image has undergone Enclosure, and as a result it seems that all art is rendered powerless in the sphere of the social. In fact, we can no longer even assume the existence of any %u201Csphere of the social. All human relations can be%u2014and are%u2014expressed as commodity relations.”

Amantes del C&237;rculo Polar, Los (1998)

Los Amantes del Círculo Polar – Lovers of the Arctic Circle

Romantic destiny and the happenstance of perfect love in a casually malign and imperfect world.

We should never not dare to risk, or let go too easily and regret.

Parachuting into the woods near Rovaniemi rather than landing and taking a taxi?

Also not a great idea.

Narrative as Genealogy

From the page: “This is a characteristic we often observe in the recounting of a myth. There is no linear beginning, middle, and end. Rather the story exists at the interface between the receding, imagined past and an ever-changing, incomprehensible present — its historicity can now only exist as the mirror of the present. It is a form of narrative which hypertext is attempting to inherit as it replaces print culture– a rhizomic structure in which linear hierarchy implodes upon itself to become the point from which all logical movement is directed by frenzied spurts that constantly disassembles and reassembles partial and random inventories. It is narrative as genealogy.”

Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (1992)

different, disturbing, disjointed, delectable…

Kinda like an insanely nihilistic incredible hulk on a really, really, REALLY bad acid trip with huge amounts of organo-metallic firepower instead of muscles.

also nice use of graduated tobacco and neutral density filters to make it rather claustrophobic, which combined with the rapid fire machinegun edits, well… nice 😀
