After All

Go ahead, push your luck
Find out how much love the world can hold
Once upon a time I had control
And reigned my soul in tight

Well the whole truth
Is like the story of a wave unfurled
But I held the evil of the world
So I stopped the tide
Froze it up from inside

And it felt like a winter machine
That you go through and then
You catch your breath and winter starts again
And everyone else is spring bound

And when I chose to live
There was no joy – it’s just a line I crossed
It wasn’t worth the pain my death would cost
So I was not lost or found

And if I was to sleep
I knew my family had more truth to tell
And so I traveled down a whispering well
To know myself through them

Growing up, my Mom had a room full of books
And hid away in there
Her father raging down a spiral stair
‘Til he found someone
Most days his son

And sometimes I think
My father, too, was a refugee
I know they tried to keep their pain from me
They could not see what it was for

But now I’m sleeping fine
Sometimes the truth is like a second chance
I am the daughter of a great romance
And they are the children of the war

Well the sun rose with so many colors
It nearly broke my heart
And worked me over like a work of art
And I was a part of all that

So go ahead, push your luck
Say what it is you’ve got to say to me
We will push on into that mystery
And it’ll push right back
And there are worse things than that

‘Cause for every price
And every penance that I could think of
It’s better to have fallen in love
Than never to have fallen at all

‘Cause when you live in a world
Well it gets in to who you thought you’d be
And now I laugh at how the world changed me
I think life chose me after all

“With no other place to go, young girls play in an old destroyed
building in Kabul built by the Soviets before the Taliban regime.
The building is now home to 105 refugee families, many of whom returned
from Pakistan three years ago. The men are virtually unemployed and most
struggle day to day to feed their families.”

“Malalai is one of the only policewomen in Kandahar.
Unlike other women in the region, Malalai works alongside men,
apprehending criminals and restoring justice in one of the most dangerous
cities in the nation. When working outside her home and office she is
always armed beneath her burka.”

“This 11-year-old girl was 4 years old when her stepfather sold her to a
family in Kandahar, who then married her to their six year-old boy.
She was beaten, isolated and treated as a slave for the next seven years by
his family until she escaped one night when her stepfather threatened to
kill her. Today she is the only female in an orphanage in Kandahar.”

Continuing on from my posting the post by Kate Crimson, here’s one from jane who has co-incidentally covered a similar topic today, exposing more of the ludicrous bigotry out there.

It’s sad that when confronted with the largest library mankind has ever know, some people still choose willfull ignorance over learning, prefering to push their sordid and ridiculous little petty hate-filled pamphlets in the lobby rather than read the books, and learn perhaps what it is to be human.

——————-
this weekend i happened to look on a website for one thing but my eye was led astray by something else. i followed the link and was horrified. i had to go scrounging to find the entire video, so here it is (it isn’t from the original website i was on): final solution for whites. i was aghast that this black man was standing there, in 2005, saying that white people are the problem and need to be exterminated. i thought, hold on, how far have we gone back thinking that the ‘problem’ is based on race? aren’t there just as many non-white pigmentation people who are oppressing people? it isn’t only one race against the other who oppresses. it’s based on class, gender, religion, caste, ethnicity… there are so many things involved (with many of them intersecting).

then, my mind began to try and grapple with this – i decided to do a stumble page that looks at the desire to wipe people out. gender, religion, age, mental status, there are undoubtedly more, but these were the first ones that came to my mind. the desire to wipe masses of people out is such a powerful undercurrent. but what would it accomplish if we wiped out all (pick your group to wipe out) to ‘make the world a better place’: whites, blacks, men, women, elderly, mentally deficient… the list goes on. at the end of it, all we would have would be a big heap of bodies and a bunch of flies buzzing around.

it enrages me to hear this kind of shite. just as it does to hear about the nazi socialist green party, a two extremist group showdown here between the black panthers and the kkk both supposedly spouting hatred for the jewish people. bombs from the far right extremist groups in south africa, the christian identity movement and national alliance . the black panthers.

if it isn’t people slaying each other on the basis of religion, it’s race, if it isn’t race, it’s gender, if it isn’t gender it’s age, if it isn’t age it’s iq…. and what *do* we do with the pesky problems of cross-‘race’/religion children? it will never cease to amaze me how important the pigmentation of skin is to some people. if it is going to be an issue, then take skin samples and analyse it in a lab (and please be sure to get a mixture of part of my freckles and part non – it should be an average i should think – further, more importantly, see that that comment is sarcastic)

humanity is a perpetual powder keg waiting to explode.

From the page: “It sickens me to the core to see that stumblers are giving this repulsive, blatantly racist site a thumbs up. What is wrong with you people? This is not a “news” site, this is nothing but racist propaganda.

Are you so uninformed, uneducated or just so astoundingly ignorant that you actually think having white skin makes you superior to other people?

SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!

The racists are out in full force, as evidenced by this new SU arrival. Be sure to visit his page and let him know what you think about hate-mongering, white-supremacist drivel.

Here’s another one, unfortunately. Just look at this avatar:

This one, I’m ashamed to say, is Canadian. I thought we knew better in this country, but obviously not.

Loads of racist thumbs up on this page!

bariumlanthanide.stumbleupon.com [stumbleupon.com]
This one signed onto SU long enough to give David Dukes a big TU!

Please, stumblers, speak up against bigotry!”
