\nLooking at Ducks<\/b><\/p>\n

It is good to look at ducks.
\nI never said that I do everything right.
\nI said I do some things right
\nand that the rest is a wash.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, I do look at ducks
\nand never regret my choices.
\nOkay, I regret one of my choices,
\nbut it had nothing to do with you,<\/p>\n

and it was totally understandable.
\nI also regret something I said
\nabout stars and ducks and about the sky
\nlooking down upon the earth<\/p>\n

the way a monster looks at a child
\nfrom within a closet, eyes glinting.
\nThe eyes, I thought, were stars,
\nand in that scenario we were the ducks.<\/p>\n

But we are not like ducks, and perhaps
\nin a different sense we don’t even like them,
\nbut I would still contend that it’s okay
\nto look at them, even if a bit fondly,<\/p>\n

the way a man looks at a child
\nwho’s scared in bed — consolingly.
\nFor while we are not like them now,
\nwe must realize that we once were,<\/p>\n

so please excuse me while I look at ducks.<\/p>\n
