Love this guy’s stuff, not many people could capture in a single line the essence of the Famine of ’58 to ’61 which left 30 to 40 million dead (about 1\/4 of whome were young girls, they were allowed to starve first due to traditionally having less ‘value’ in Chinese culture), often with none left living to bury them. And during which people ate grass, tree bark, and even their own children…<\/p>\n

\nR. Hu<\/p>\n

China has a history, not often told;
\nNew China is more than fifty years old.
\nHe led the Long March, in the fall of ’34;
\nHe ended many years, of civil war.
\nMao Zedong was the greatest leader China ever had,
\nYet he made many decisions that were very bad.
\nMao revolutionized China, and made it new;
\nResisted the Japanese, in World War Two.
\nWar, however, would eventually cease;
\nMao’s reign had little peace.
\nThe war in Korea, much to China’s expense;
\nThe purpose of it was for its own defense.
\nEven today, they don’t regret;
\nHe thought the U.N. would be threat!
\nThat was the beginning, there’s more you see;
\nStalin died in ’53!
\nChina’s communism had grown very deep;
\nIn ’58 there was a Great Leap!
\nHe formed communes, in every town;
\nFrom there on, Mao stepped down.
\nThere was much conflict; it was very crude;
\nFor while, China had no food.
\nMao lost support; it was near his end;
\nThe Soviets were no longer a friend.
\nYet China continued, to create more and more;
\nThey developed The Bomb, in ’64!
\n’66 marked the start of ten years;
\nThe Cultural Revolution, left many tears!
\nSome diplomats came, but very few;
\nRichard Nixon came in ’72!
\nEventually, China and other cultures began to mix;
\nMao Zedong finally died, in ’76.
\nFlags were placed at half staff, they say;”<\/p>\n
