Has a nice magical<br \/>\nrealism thing going on where the relationship between the two main<br \/>\nprotaganists becomes part of the ecosystem and makes the fishies happy.<br \/>\nAlso features one of the best seduction-by-posh-cheese portrayals ever,<br \/>\nshowing just how fast and deadly it can be as a tactic.<\/p>\n<p>Echoes of Seijun Suzuki&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/title\/tt0058409\/\">Gate of Flesh<\/a> in one part where it&#8217;s suggested that the most important things in life are food and sex.  <\/p>\n<p>In contrast however to Suzuki&#8217;s film where the women have been<br \/>\nabandoned by their husbands who died in the war, and left them without<br \/>\nmeans, then brutalised before turning to prostitution to survive, and<br \/>\ncoming to believe that food and sex are the only things that can be<br \/>\nrelied on, that finer emotions aren&#8217;t to be trusted, even though they<br \/>\nstill dream and yearn for the &#8216;gate of flesh&#8217;&#8230;this film holds them up<br \/>\nto be the basis of a life well lived, desires that should be embraced<br \/>\nrather than rejected, food, sex, and thinking for no reason with no<br \/>\nrestriction are the escape from the dreary repetitive world of the<br \/>\ncoporate wage-slave salaryman.
