\nDoves smoke a gully:<\/p>\n

in the desert presence bares itself
\nits pressure on the sky envious and delicate and<\/p>\n

what must be said moving towards us<\/p>\n

\nvoluptuary of dust its tail
\nthough we can’t make
\ncan’t make it out among humped
\nhills ravines others unnamed unshaped
\nwhich the eye can’t<\/p>\n

\nfollowing the line the pointing finger moves.<\/p>\n

Imagine it.
\nImagine two people in a desert. Walking.
\nWith a lift of her hair his hand<\/p>\n

all of it flows towards them
\nbones thighs whatever the hills <\/p>\n

then like a gully turning
\neverything flows back:<\/p>\n

the horizon’s dark extra-sense<\/p>\n

\ngrey lines of stream beds<\/p>\n

the alignment of what is unmanageable.<\/p>\n

Imagine them. Two people having just<\/p>\n

come to a halt here
\ntheir breath landing in the blue air little puffs hooff! hooff!<\/i>
\nas if they’re making clouds
\nunderfoot the gritty run of shale:<\/p>\n

so high so far day splits round them.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile in darkness the heart that plump
